Softball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Pioneer's 11th in Last 14 Outings

Pioneer had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Kouts on Saturday. The Panthers blew past the Mustangs & Fillies 9-2. Considering the Panthers have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Lois Layer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Layer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Ava Beasy was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Kamryn Newby was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs.

Pioneer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 11-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Pioneer has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Kouts, they dropped their record down to 7-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Coincidentally, Pioneer and Kouts will both be playing Twin Lakes the next time they take the field. The Mustangs & Fillies will head out to face the Indians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Panthers will play them later in the day, at 2:00 p.m.
