FLORENCE, Ala. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Florence (Ala.) held on for a 28-21 victory over
Vestavia Hills (Ala.) on Saturday. The difference for the Falcons was it ran for a touchdown.
The Rebels pulled ahead on a touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-7. The Falcons took the lead for good with a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The loss came as a surprise for Vestavia Hills, which entered the game ranked No. 6 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Alabama, while Florence was ranked No. 53. VH came into the game having won one of the past three games between the two teams.
FHS's most effective player was
Kendrick Doss. The junior quarterback ran for one touchdown.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 13-7 win for the Falcons.
The defeat comes as a step back for Vestavia Hills, which notched a 34-6 victory over Mountain Brook in its previous outing.
Vestavia Hills (8-2) goes up against Hueytown when it takes the field next week. The Golden Gophers have put together a 5-4 record on the year so far.
