Baseball Recap: Whittier Cardinals vs. El Rancho Dons
Whittier extended their losing streak to 11 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 6-18 in the process. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the El Rancho Dons. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by exactly four runs.
Whittier saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Ruvalcaba, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Isaiah Silva also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
As for El Rancho, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.
On El Rancho's side, Eric Cortes looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cortes has become a key player for the Dons: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 11-13 otherwise.
At the plate, Alex Aparicio was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexander Moraza, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
As of now, neither Whittier nor El Rancho have any future games scheduled.
