The Weslaco East Wildcats will take on the Harlingen South Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Weslaco East's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Mercedes as Weslaco East made off with a 17-0 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Eduardo Hernandez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Antonio Solis was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Jayden Del Villar was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Weslaco East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Harlingen South faced off against Hanna on Saturday. Harlingen South blew past Hanna 12-2. Winning may never get old, but the Hawks sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
James Anthony Esquivel looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Harlingen South got a massive performance out of Josh Ruiz, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Garcia, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Weslaco East's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Harlingen South, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Weslaco East has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .549. However, it's not like Harlingen South struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
