Softball Recap: Smithville Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Smithville couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Salado Eagles by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Jessica Hinnant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

Smithville's defeat dropped their record down to 25-7-1. As for Salado, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-5 record this season.

Smithville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Salado, they will square off against Silsbee on Saturday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
