Basketball Recap: Midland Trail Comes Up Short

Midland Trail lost against Summit Christian Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Midland Trail Patriots fell 67-58 to the Summit Christian Academy Falcons.

When it comes to explaining why Midland Trail lost, don't look at Thad Brown. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 16 to rack up 16 points and six assists. Another player making a difference was Payton Bailes, who posted 11 points.

Summit Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chance Watkins led the charge by dropping a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Watkins is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Adam Jones was another key player, as he made all 7 shots he took to post 16 points and three steals.

Midland Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Summit Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midland Trail will take on Sherman at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Summit Christian Academy, they will challenge Mountain Mission at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mountain Mission comes in on six and Summit Christian Academy on three.
