Centauri is 9-1 against Monte Vista since October of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Falcons will host the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Monte Vista will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Centauri extended their winning streak to five on Friday. The Falcons breezed past Trinidad to the tune of 55-6. With the Falcons ahead 43-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Carson Shawcroft produced another solid effort rushing for 69 yards and one touchdown, while also catching one score. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 64 yards. Shandon Gilleland was another key player, rushing for 56 yards and one TD.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Centauri proved: they limited Trinidad to a paltry three yards per carry. The team can thank Spencer Smith for the heroic effort on defense: he. Centauri didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 15.7.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista humbled Ignacio with a 55-6 victory. The Pirates pushed the score to 55-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bobcats cut but never quite recovered from.
Centauri better keep an eye on Judah Howe. He was instrumental in Monte Vista's win, rushing for 97 yards and three scores on only five carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Howe a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Manny Jiron, who threw for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Monte Vista didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Kelby Mondragon. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Centauri's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Monte Vista, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Centauri has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 180.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Monte Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 185.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Centauri couldn't quite get it done against Monte Vista when the teams last played back in November of 2024 as they fell 36-26. Thankfully for the Falcons, Jacob Pacheco (who rushed for 216 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.3 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
