Football Game Preview: Bristol Eastern Lancers vs. Newington Nor'easters

The Bristol Eastern Lancers will square off against the Newington Nor'easters at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for Bristol Eastern: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Newington has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.

Bristol Eastern is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 38 points last Saturday, they were much more limited against Edwin O. Smith on Friday. The matchup between the Lancers and the Panthers didn't end well, with the Lancers falling 24-8.

Meanwhile, Newington got themselves on the board against RHAM on Saturday, but RHAM never followed suit. They blew past the Raptors, posting a 42-0 victory. That looming 42-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Nor'easters yet this season.

Bristol Eastern better keep an eye on Josiah Sims. He was instrumental in Newington's win, rushing for 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries, while also picking up 104 receiving yards and two scores. Sims' longest reception was for an incredible 79 yards.

Newington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 260 rushing yards. They are a perfect 5-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Newington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Givanni Benjamin, Jaden Manguel, and Lavonne Jr. Ellison picked up one apiece. Another thorn in RHAM's side was Heath Weeden, who made 13 total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Bristol Eastern's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Newington, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
