Wharton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Mariano Rodriguez, Markeal Howard, and Quan Campbell picked up one apiece. Howard is becoming a predictor of Wharton's success: when he posts at least one interception the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Howard got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, East Bay never let their opponents score on Friday. They claimed a resounding 57-0 win over Leto. That looming 57-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Indians yet this season.
Wharton better keep an eye on Trey Alexander. He was instrumental in East Bay's win, rushing for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine carries, while also picking up 72 receiving yards. Alexander's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Richard McClary, who threw for 120 yards and three TDs on perfect 5-for-5 passing.
East Bay's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. Dorian Edwards was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself. Another thorn in Leto's side was Jowell Amador, who picked up a sack and made six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Special teams was a major factor in the game for East Bay, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Comarion Anthony, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
The victory got East Bay back to even at 3-3. As for Wharton, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
