Football Recap: Doddridge County Starts off Right with Win over Liberty

Doddridge County had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Liberty Raiders 41-6. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Raiders are ranked 91st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Doddridge County found their leader in sophomore Lyric Blake, who rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Brandon Davis was another key player, gaining 110 total yards and a touchdown.

Doddridge County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Doddridge County's defense and their five sacks. Liberty's QB won't forget Landon Thomas anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

Doddridge County and Liberty will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Bulldogs are set to square off against their familiar foe Ritchie County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Liberty will challenge rival PikeView at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
