Basketball Recap: De Soto Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Kickapoo last Tuesday, De Soto came back down to earth. The De Soto Pirates took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets on Thursday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-40 back in December of 2024.

De Soto's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sylvia Krueger, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. What's more, Krueger also racked up four steals, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kylee Venner, who posted 16 points and five steals.

De Soto's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-6. As for Wauzeka-Steuben, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.

De Soto wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 61-43 loss against Luther on the 1st. As for Wauzeka-Steuben, they will welcome Seneca at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
