Basketball Recap: Jordan Cortez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Buhach Colony over Los Banos

Buhach Colony was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Los Banos Tigers. The Thunder were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 65-55.

Several Thunder players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Cortez, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 14 points and five rebounds. Cortez has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Elijah Garza was another key player, putting up 13 points along with six boards and three steals.

Buhach Colony's defeat dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Los Banos, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 14-10.

Buhach Colony and Los Banos could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Buhach Colony will square off against Atwater at 7:15 p.m. on Friday down 550 places (737 vs. 187). Similarly, Los Banos (ranked 629th) will meet El Capitan (ranked 299th) at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
