Preview: Wheeling Park Patriots vs. John Marshall Monarchs
Wheeling Park has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The John Marshall Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Wheeling Park is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than John Marshall in West Virginia (Wheeling Park is ranked fifth, while John Marshall is ranked 67th).
Wheeling Park put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Parkersburg South at home to the tune of 64-14. Wheeling Park pushed the score to 58-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Parkersburg South cut but never quite recovered from.
Wheeling Park got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Davis out in front who threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes. Davis hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Amare Johnson was another key contributor, rushing for 136 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, John Marshall's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 48-0 loss at the hands of Morgantown.
Wheeling Park's win bumped their season record to 6-2 while John Marshall's defeat dropped theirs to 1-8.
Everything came up roses for Wheeling Park against John Marshall in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 70-10 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wheeling Park since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
