Basketball Recap: Gilbert Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Hamilton

On Saturday, Gilbert faced Hamilton in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Gilbert Tigers fell just short of the Hamilton Huskies by a score of 56-54. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Huskies: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Gilbert still got an impressive performance from Isabella Ivy, who posted 30 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Ivy a new career-high in points. Aspen McClees was another key player, putting up 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Gilbert smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Hamilton was led to victory by Sage Henry and Taylor Sipfle. Henry dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten boards, while Sipfle dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Sipfle is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last 22 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Destinee Benway, who had ten points and five boards.

Gilbert's loss dropped their record down to 23-8. As for Hamilton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 20-12 record this season.

As of now, neither Gilbert nor Hamilton have any future games scheduled.
