On Thursday, Hobbs faced Lovington in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Hobbs Eagles came up short against the Lovington Wildcats, falling 11-4. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Kaiya Boyle was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Edyth Chavez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Hobbs' defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Lovington, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hobbs will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Alamogordo at 4:00 p.m. on March 27th. Lovington also won't see the field for a while: their next matchup is against Carlsbad at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th.
