Softball Recap: Karsyn Paynter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Westside over Liberty

WestSide extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-2 to the Liberty Raiders, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-3 back in April.

WestSide saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karsyn Paynter, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Kinley Morgan also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Liberty, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.

On Liberty's side, Maddie Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Cox has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Scarbro, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Katie Mullens, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

WestSide does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Liberty, they will take on Summers County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
