Basketball Recap: Parkersburg Catholic Takes a Loss

Parkersburg Catholic lost against Magnolia back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Parkersburg Catholic Crusaders fell 78-67 to the Magnolia Blue Eagles. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Crusaders came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Blue Eagles are ranked 643rd).

Despite the loss, Parkersburg Catholic still got an impressive performance from Preston Randolph, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Randolph a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Carter Nelson, who posted 14 points.

Parkersburg Catholic's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-13. As for Magnolia, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Parkersburg Catholic will venture away from home to square off against Hannan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Magnolia, they will head out to take on Hundred at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
