Basketball Recap: Peyton Starts Season with Victory Against Manitou Springs

Peyton had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Manitou Springs Mustangs by a score of 51-42. Surprisingly, this marked the Panthers' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Peyton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Perry, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten assists. The dominant performance also gave Perry a new career-high in boards (seven). Another player making a difference was Bryce Love, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Peyton was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manitou Springs only posted six.

Despite the defeat, Manitou Springs saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Michael Reed posted 23 points and eight steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cohen Barrett, who scored 11 points and five boards.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Peyton will look to takes advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they takes on Salida at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Manitou Springs, they will host Elizabeth at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
