Basketball Recap: Addison Jones Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat New Castle

Connersville won the last time they faced New Castle and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Connersville Spartans came out on top against the New Castle Trojans by a score of 48-40. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Trojans are ranked 252nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Connersville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Addison Jones out in front who posted seven points in addition to seven assists and four steals. Those seven assists gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendyl Bottomley, who put up seven points and 12 boards.

Jones wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Connersville was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, New Castle saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Piper Arthur had 12 points. Arthur has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

The win made it two in a row for Connersville and bumps their season record up to 5-3. As for New Castle, they dropped their record down to 3-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Connersville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 46-38 victory against Batesville on the 12th. As for New Castle, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-38 defeat against Shelbyville on the 13th.
