Baseball Game Preview: Kennett Blue Demons vs. Unionville Longhorns

The Kennett Blue Demons will take on the Unionville Longhorns at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Kennett will be strutting in after a win while Unionville will be coming in after a loss.

On Thursday, Kennett needed a bit of extra time to put away Springfield. They won by a run and slipped past the Cougars 4-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Blue Demons as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Cole Pacinelli and Chase Gibbons dominated on the mound. Pacinelli didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run over four innings pitched, while Gibbons tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Pacinelli also allowed no hits, which is notable because Kennett is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 0-4-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyler Homick, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI. Cam Tanner was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Unionville has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.29 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to East. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Longhorns were not able to get on the board.

Unionville has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Kennett, their win bumped their record up to 2-5-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Kennett has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Unionville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
