Softball Recap: Overton Picks Up 11th Consecutive Victory

Overton waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They put the hurt on the Ore City Rebels with a sharp 13-4 win. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly nine runs.

Kelsey Vaught made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Overton let Kasha Williams and Bryleigh Nelson run wild. Williams scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Nelson scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave Williams a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Emery, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Overton pushed their record up to 14-8-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ore City, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Overton is set to face off against their familiar foe Union Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ore City will challenge rival Waskom at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
