Basketball Recap: Centauri Falcons vs. Montezuma-Cortez Panthers

The Centauri Falcons were the 56-45 winner over the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Centauri fell to the Panthers 48-44. Centauri has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Despite the loss, Centauri still got an impressive performance from Hannah Curtis, who scored 26 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Curtis has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylie McCarroll, who scored four points along with four steals.

Montezuma-Cortez's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Milah Begay, who scored nine points along with three steals. Begay continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kalea Ogo was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Centauri's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Centauri will head out on the road to square off against the Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bayfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Falcons are ranked 64th). As for Montezuma-Cortez, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mean Moose at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Morgan Ortega and Savannah Haselroth.
