The Bertrand Vikings will face off against the Arapahoe Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bertrand is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
On Friday, Bertrand needed a bit of extra time to put away Medicine Valley. They enjoyed a cozy 80-65 win over the Raiders. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Vikings were down 43-23 in the second quarter.
Bertrand relied on the efforts of Marcus Hernandez, who went 11 of 17 to rack up 28 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds, and Thunder Nelson, who dropped a double-double with 29 points and ten boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hernandez has scored at least a third of Bertrand's points. Another player making a difference was Kayden Hatfield, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Arapahoe came up short against Cambridge on Tuesday and fell 52-42. The Warriors have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Bertrand will need to focus on slowing down Alex Diaz, one of several Arapahoe players who made an impact when they last played. He had nine points and seven assists. The dominant performance also gave Diaz a new career-high in shooting accuracy (67%). Eli Shafer was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 boards.
Even though they lost, Arapahoe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. This was only their 15th loss (out of 17 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Bertrand pushed their record up to 16-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.9 points over those games. As for Arapahoe, their loss dropped their record down to 2-19.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Bertrand hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 57.8 points per game. It's a different story for Arapahoe, though, as they've been averaging only 39 points. The only thing between Bertrand and another offensive beatdown is Arapahoe. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Bertrand came out on top in a nail-biter against Arapahoe in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, sneaking past 45-43. Will Bertrand repeat their success, or does Arapahoe have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
