Football Game Preview: Emerald Ridge Jaguars vs. Spanaway Lake Sentinels

The Emerald Ridge Jaguars will venture away from home to face off against the Spanaway Lake Sentinels at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Emerald Ridge is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

It was a proper cat-fight when Emerald Ridge duked it out with Bonney Lake on Thursday. The Jaguars took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers.

Emerald Ridge's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Amosa Masaniai, who picked up 40 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Avery Anderson, who threw for 69 yards and two TDs.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four matchup, Spanaway Lake brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They walked away with a 48-41 victory over Rogers on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Sentinels as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

A big part of Spanaway Lake's victory came down to the chemistry between Jericho Martin and his top target Malik Burns. Martin threw for 358 yards and six TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes while Burns picked up 199 receiving yards and four scores. Burns is becoming a predictor of Spanaway Lake's success: when he posts at least 80 receiving yards the team is 2-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't).

Spanaway Lake didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Aj Auguste and Marques Martin Jr.. Martin Jr. got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Emerald Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Spanaway Lake, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Emerald Ridge strolled past Spanaway Lake in their previous matchup back in October of 2015 by a score of 30-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
