Baseball Recap: Clinton's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Clinton barely beat Quabbin Regional the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Gaels were the clear victors by an 18-4 margin over the Panthers on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Gaels, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Jake Notaro made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Mortimer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Frisch, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Clinton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Clinton's fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Quabbin Regional, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Clinton will square off against rival Oakmont Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Gaels 3.4, the Spartans 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Quabbin Regional is set to face off against their familiar foe Lunenburg at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
