Saratoga has gone 9-1 against Monta Vista recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Falcons are taking a road trip to square off against the Matadors at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Saratoga has eight straight wins, Monta Vista has 22 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Saratoga was able to grind out a solid victory over Santa Clara, taking the game 7-2.
Saira Ramakrishnan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Tham, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Avi Chauhan also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Saratoga hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Monta Vista lost 17-3 to Cupertino on Monday.
Saratoga's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Monta Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Saratoga has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like Monta Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Saratoga took their win against Monta Vista in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
