Softball Recap: Knightstown Comes Up Short

If Knightstown was riding high fresh off their 12-2 takedown of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers fell just short of the Northeastern Knights by a score of 6-5 on Monday. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Mae Hersberger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lanee Swindell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaycie Cole, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Knightstown's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Northeastern, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Knightstown didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 14-3 win against Morristown on the 15th. As for Northeastern, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-8 victory against Delta on the 15th.
