Baseball Game Preview: Wagner Thunderbirds vs. Alamo Heights Mules

For the second straight game, Wagner will face off against Alamo Heights. The Thunderbirds will face off against the Mules at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wagner has given up an average of 6.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wagner came up short against Alamo Heights on Tuesday, falling 21-8.

For Alamo Heights' part, Davis Zunker looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Zunker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Luke Spielhagen was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. He also got three hits, which is notable because Alamo Heights is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 7-16-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Blake Bader, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Alamo Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Alamo Heights' win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-17-1. As for Wagner, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.
