Softball Recap: Piedmont Highlanders vs. Mt. Diablo Red Devils

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Piedmont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Mt. Diablo Red Devils 16-15. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Highlanders.

Miya Fujimoto was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over eight innings while giving up five earned (and nine unearned) runs off four hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Edie Elmquist was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Hannah Joerger, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

Piedmont now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Mt. Diablo, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Piedmont will square off against Arroyo at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mt. Diablo, they will head out to square off against San Lorenzo at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
