Softball Recap: 14 Straight Home Victories for Mt. Zion

Mt. Zion had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. Everything went their way against the Athens Warriors as they made off with an 11-2 victory. The Braves have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

Ella Fink was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fink was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Ana Kanemaru was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Avelyn Ethell, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Mt. Zion hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Mt. Zion pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Athens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Mt. Zion has already played their next contest, a 16-5 win against Taylorville on the 12th. As for Athens, they are taking a road trip to challenge PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
