Softball Game Preview: Beecher Bobcats vs. Seneca Fighting Irish

Beecher is a perfect 3-0 against Seneca since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bobcats will challenge the Fighting Irish at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.

Beecher is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They skirted past Herscher 7-5. That's two games straight that the Bobcats have won by exactly two runs.

Ava Lorenzatti made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Beecher let Liliana Irwin and Allie Johnson run wild. Irwin went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Johnson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Johnson has posted since back in April.

Beecher hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Seneca put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over Coal City. Considering the Fighting Irish have won 26 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Seneca pushed their record up to 34-1 with the victory, which was their 33rd straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.5 runs. As for Beecher, their record is now 33-2.

Beecher came out on top in a nail-biter against Seneca in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Bobcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Fighting Irish turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
