Softball Recap: Wheeling Park Takes Down Ranked Martins Ferry

Wheeling Park is ranked highly in their home state and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Martins Ferry. The Patriots blew past the Purple Riders 10-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Patriots also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2025.

Harmony Bittner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Harris was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Elli Robinson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

Wheeling Park's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-5. As for Martins Ferry, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 10-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheeling Park will venture away from home to take on Weir at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Riders' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Martins Ferry, they will challenge Cambridge at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.91 runs per game on average), something the Purple Riders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
