Matthew Roussey looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Thomas Jewett, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Minogue, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's Ryken entered their tilt with Episcopal on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Maroon. The contest marked the Knights' most dominant win of the season so far.
St. Mary's Ryken also got a great performance from Chase Harkness as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Harkness a new career-low in earned runs (zero).
On the hitting side, Jason Gregory was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lucas Sigafoose, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
St. Mary's Ryken always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Paul VI's record now sits at 7-2. As for St. Mary's Ryken, their record now sits at 3-1.
Paul VI came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Mary's Ryken in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Paul VI since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
