Baseball Recap: 16 Straight Home Victories for St. Joseph

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Joseph). Everything went their way against the Guy-Perkins Thunderbirds on Monday as they made off with a 22-2 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Travis Jackson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, George Heer was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jake Rappold, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

St. Joseph was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .714. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

St. Joseph pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Guy-Perkins, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph will head out on the road to take on Quitman at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Guy-Perkins, they will face off against Nemo Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
