Softball Recap: Bureau Valley Drops Season-High Score on Polo

Bureau Valley had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Polo on Saturday. Bureau Valley put the hurt on Polo with a sharp 15-1 win. The Storm's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Mallery Maubach spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Sadie Bailey and Emily Wright did most of the damage at the plate: Bailey scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5, while Wright scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Wright a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Kadyn Haage, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Bureau Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

The victory got Bureau Valley back to even at 4-4. As for Polo, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Bureau Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Kewanee at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Polo, they are taking a road trip to challenge East Dubuque at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
