Basketball Recap: John Paul II Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

The Centurions won the last time they faced the Guardians, and Ella Garcia did her part to make sure it happened again. The John Paul II Centurions were the clear victor by a 50-29 margin over the John Paul II Guardians on Tuesday thanks in part to Garcia, who went 7 of 12 en route to 25 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Callie Coleman, who posted three points along with seven boards and three steals. What's more, she also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why the Guardians lost, don't look at Christina Torrez. Despite the final result, she had five points and seven steals. Another player making a difference was Sofia Figueroa, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 11 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

The Centurions have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 20-13 record this season. As for the Guardians, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-16.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing the Knights the next time they take the court. The Guardians will head out to face the Knights at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, while the Centurions will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
