Soccer Game Preview: Stafford vs. Columbia

Stafford is 1-9 against Columbia since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Stafford Spartans will venture away from home to challenge the Columbia Roughnecks at 10:00 a.m.

On Thursday, Stafford didn't have quite enough to beat Needville and fell 2-1.

Meanwhile, Columbia entered their tilt with Almeta Crawford on Thursday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Their defense stepped up to hand the Chargers a 3-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Roughnecks, who have now won five matches by three goals or more so far this season.

Columbia is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those nine contests. As for Stafford, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.

Stafford skirted past Columbia 4-3 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Does Stafford have another victory up their sleeve, or will Columbia turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
