Baseball Game Preview: Mishawaka Marian Knights vs. New Prairie Cougars

For the second straight game, Mishawaka Marian will face off against New Prairie. The Knights will head out on the road to take on the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mishawaka Marian managed to slip by New Prairie the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Knights came up short against the Cougars on Tuesday, falling 8-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Knights have suffered against the Cougars since April 22, 2019.

For New Prairie's part, Colton Griffiths spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. Griffiths has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jordan Davis was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Reed Robinson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

New Prairie is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Mishawaka Marian, they moved to 7-7 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
