Softball Recap: Mckinley Drops Highest Score of Season Against Garfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McKinley). They put the hurt on the Garfield Rams with a sharp 23-1 victory on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Hailey Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith was even better at the plate, firing off six RBI, four runs, and two triples while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Violet Hanlin was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Kylee Delgado was another key player, going 1-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

McKinley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

McKinley's victory bumped their record up to 8-16. As for Garfield, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. McKinley will be playing at home against Strongsville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Garfield, they will challenge North at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
