Football Recap: Cox Mill Comes Up Short on the Road Against Marvin Ridge

Cox Mill kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost to the Marvin Ridge Mavericks on the road by a 26-7 margin.

Carter Casteel threw for 135 yards and one touchdown. Tyson Foster was his top target, picking up 69 receiving yards.

Marvin Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Hawkins, who rushed for 107 yards and one TD. Those 107 rushing yards gave Hawkins a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Haines, who picked up 92 receiving yards and one score.

Cox Mill and Marvin Ridge should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Chargers (ranked 90th) will meet Rocky River (ranked 235th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Marvin Ridge will challenge Ballantyne Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (45 vs. 330).
