Volleyball Recap: Avery Thigpen Key Part of Team Effort in Indians Win

There's no place like home for Choctawhatchee, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Crestview Bulldogs 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since October 1, 2024.

Choctawhatchee was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The final score came out to 17-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 20-18.

Choctawhatchee's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Thigpen led the charge by getting 26 assists and four digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Alexander, who had 13 digs and one assist.

Choctawhatchee was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Crestview's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kelsey Griffin, who had 26 digs and three aces, and Kyla Fry, who had 29 assists and 16 digs. Griffin is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 15 or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season.

The win got Choctawhatchee back to even at 1-1. As for Crestview, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Choctawhatchee will be playing in front of their home fans against Booker T. Washington at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give the Indians their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Crestview, they will head out on the road to challenge Fort Walton Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
