Basketball Game Preview: Shields Panthers vs. Choctaw County Tigers

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Shields Panthers duke it out with the Choctaw County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday... Both are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Last Monday, Shields humbled Sweet Water with a 72-2 victory. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 35 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Choctaw County). They really took it to Sweet Water for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-7 victory. With the Tigers ahead 31-5 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Choctaw County's win came from a few key players Shields will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kamya Straight, who posted 18 points in addition to seven steals and five assists. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (three). Another player making a difference was Alyssa Thomas, who went 10 for 11 en route to 20 points and three steals.

Choctaw County was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Choctaw County's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-10. As for Shields, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
