Basketball Recap: Trinity Falls Despite Big Games from Cooper Hughes and Justin Sims

Trinity lost against Cuyahoga Heights back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Trinity Trojans took a 74-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (60), the Trojans still had to take the loss.

Trinity's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Justin Sims, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 11 boards, and Cooper Hughes, who went 8-for-17 en route to 20 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Hughes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Campbell, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Trinity smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Trinity's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Cuyahoga Heights, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinity will host Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Trinity is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.5 points per game this season. As for Cuyahoga Heights, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oberlin at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. Oberlin also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 54.4 points per game.
