Manatee's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Braden River Pirates as the Manatee Hurricanes made off with a 17-8 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hurricanes considering their two-run performance the game before.
Brooke Burkhart made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Burkhart was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run.
In other batting news, Addison Davis was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Jenna Caldwell was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Manatee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Braden River only posted a batting average of .308.
The victory got Manatee back to even at 1-1. As for Braden River, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manatee will venture away from home to face off against Bradenton Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Braden River, they will head out to square off against Lakewood Ranch at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
