Basketball Recap: Jersey Takes a Loss

Jersey suffered their biggest defeat since January 13th on Friday. They had to suffer through a 66-38 loss at the hands of the Waterloo Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 84th).

When it comes to explaining why Jersey lost, don't look at Jaxon Brunaugh. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points. Aiden Kendall was another key player, putting up eight points.

Waterloo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Stell, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 21 boards. Stell has become a key player for Waterloo: the team is 19-6 when he posts at least eight rebounds, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Griffin Stork, who went 5-for-9 en route to 12 points.

Jersey's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-19. As for Waterloo, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season.

Jersey didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-42 win against Father McGivney Catholic on the 15th. As for Waterloo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-45 victory against Gibault Catholic on the 17th.
