Baseball Game Preview: West Babylon Eagles vs. Bellport Clippers

For the second straight game, West Babylon will face off against Bellport. The Eagles will host the Clippers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Babylon has three straight wins, Bellport has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

West Babylon's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Bellport with a sharp 6-0 victory. The Eagles not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19th (when they won 19-8).

Not much got past Matt Critchly, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Bellport off the board. Critchly has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Steve Gervasi was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for West Babylon: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Mandelbaum, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Babylon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

West Babylon's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Bellport, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.
