Basketball Recap: Tioga Comes Up Short

Tioga extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 6-9. They took a blow against the Vanguard College Prep Lions, falling 90-45. The Timberwolves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-20.

Griffin McLoughlin and Josiah Cunningham certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. McLoughlin posted 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Cunningham put up 21 points. The game was McLoughlin's ninth in a row with at least 16 points.

As for Vanguard College Prep, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.8 points over those games.

It was another big night for Nathan Muriithi, who dropped a double-double with 35 points and 17 boards. He is becoming a predictor of Vanguard College Prep's success: when he posts at least 25 points the team is 7-1 (and 8-9 when he doesn't). Nicolas Murithii was another key player, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Vanguard College Prep is set to challenge their familiar foe Humphreys Able Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Muriithi and Kham Milavong.
