Baseball Recap: Corvallis Wins Going Away Against South Albany

Corvallis gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on the South Albany Redhawks with a sharp 12-5 victory. Considering the Spartans have won four games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Axel Prechel and Roy Bannister made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Prechel pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Bannister struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). What's more, Prechel posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Prechel went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Bannister scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Korhan Haller was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Weiss, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

The win made it two in a row for Corvallis and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for South Albany, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Corvallis has already played their next match, an 11-1 win against Woodburn on the 16th. South Albany has also already played their next contest (against Dallas), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
