Basketball Game Preview: Mathews Mustangs vs. Harding Skippers

The Mathews Mustangs will take on the Harding Skippers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Mathews beat Badger 60-49. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Meanwhile, Harding came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 62-61 W against the Warriors.

Harding's win came from a few key players Mathews will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Yomar Castellano, who posted 16 points. His evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Jan Castellano was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Harding's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points over those games. As for Mathews, their win bumped their record up to 16-4.

Mathews came up short against Harding when the teams last played back in January, falling 64-52. Can Mathews avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
