Softball Recap: Winthrop Takes a Loss

Winthrop was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northeast Metro RVT Knights. If the Vikings were looking for revenge after losing 22-5 to the Knights when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Amelia Spencer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Sofia Gonzalez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Winthrop's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Northeast Metro RVT, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winthrop will head out to take on Danvers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight. As for Northeast Metro RVT, they are taking a road trip to face off against Saugus at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
